Vanessa Kachadurian- Davit of Sasun Statue in Fresno’s Courthouse Park

David of Sasun (or David of Sassoun) ( Armenian: Սասունցի Դավիթ /Sasuntsi Davit/) is an Armenian epic hero who drove Arab invaders out of Armenia.

The Sasuntsi Davit is an Armenian national epic poem recounting David’s exploits. As an oral history, it dates from the 8th century, and was first put in written form in 1873.

David of Sasun is actually the name of only one of the four acts, but due to the popularity of the character, the entire epic is known to the public as David of Sasun. The epic’s full name is Sasna Tsrer (The Daredevils of Sasun).

Sometimes referred to as David of Sassoun or David of Sasoun this statue proudly sits in Fresno’s Courthouse Park protecting our city against outside evils as it does in Yerevan, Armenia.

Fresno is home to over 40,000 Armenians who are direct descendants of the Armenian Genocide and 150,000 Armenian Orphans of the Genocide.  We remain strong and cohesive together as a family and community, we are one against those that threaten our freedoms and civil liberties.
